Disney's Slashy Dragon
As I'm listening to a mix of music today, the song Boo Bop Bopbop Bop from Pete's Dragon comes on. And I realized that it is quite the slashy song. Not to mention the chan and bestiality involved...

Look in your eyes and you whisper sweetly
You don't match in size but we fit so neatly
It's nice waking up when you're close beside me
Humming in my ear
You're joking
I can't believe it
You do
I love you too

Remember the night when you first confided
Things went so right that we both decided
Now we're together and life is perfect
Don't ever disappear
Oh really
No you're just saying
Oh is that true
I love you too

We're walking down a road of our own
The rain can never fall
I'm glad I don't have to be alone

Oh yeah

You know what to say when I want direction
You don't turn away when I need protection
Your voice is the sound of an angel singing
Music I wait to hear
Say it again
And again
Everything seems so new
I love you too
I love you too
I love you too

*headdesk*

There goes another fond childhood memory into the gutter...

Line Edits
I'm looking for somebody to do line edits for my book.

I know you're all saying to yourselves, "Hey, great! Here's my chance to finally read her book!" :D

However there are a few stipulations to this request.

1. I need this to be done fairly quickly. I know that people have lives and other commitments, but please don't offer if you can't get this done within a couple of weeks.

2. I can't offer much in the way of compensation. A mention when the book is published and my undying gratitude are par for the course. We can also work something out in the way of barter, but money really isn't something that I can offer.

3. You need to have better punctuation skills than I do. LOL No, really. My punctuation skills suck. I'm working on them, but when I'm reading I don't really see the punctuation so I'm not sure where I need to make corrections.

4. You have to give me your honest impressions. Don't whitewash things because you don't want to hurt my feelings. If something sucks, you need to tell me that it sucks - I can't fix problems that I don't know about.

Gonna be a longish post
The kittens are doing good. Two of them had upper respiratory infections, but they've been doing better since we put them on amoxicilin and terramyccin. Boots, the older of the three is a rotten little brute. He keeps beating up the other two. It got so bad the other night that Joe had to confine him in the ferret cage for a few minutes to get him to calm down.

They are starting to grow into themselves which is fun to watch. Their eyes are starting to change color. The little girl, who still isn't named, has the most beautiful greenish-blue eyes. I hope they stay that color.

In other news, we got a new printer after a bit of drama. We bought an HP Officejet at The Evil Empire (no, not Lisa's house :-P). We waited a couple of days to set it up because we wanted to bring the computer upstairs. When we opened the box, it was immediately apparent that it had been a return. Nothing was as it should have been. Everything was just lying willy-nilly in the box and the printer itself wasn't taped or secured in any way except for the foam holding it in place. I set it up and wonders of wonders it didn't work.

I spent two hours on the phone with HP tech support (based in India) trying to get it to work. A poor connection and really heavy accent didn't help matters very much, but we finally came to the conclusion that the printer was fubar'd. So, the techie said that for just $39 I could send the defective printer back and he would send me a new one.

Uh... no. I just bought the fucking thing. I wasn't going to spend another $39 to get a new one. He said ok, he would talk to his supervisor and see what we could do. Half an hour later, he finally came back on the line and said that they would ship me a new one free of charge.

The new printer came yesterday. I set it up right away and it works fabulously!

We drove out yesterday afternoon to visit Gi and Daniel. I wish I could say that it was purely a social visit, but we actually needed Gi to sign the marriage certificate. See, we all forgot about getting it signed the day of the wedding. The next day, it was hailing something awful, so she wasn't able to make it over while she was still in the area.

I thought that the certificate didn't need to be returned until July 14th because it said on the front of it that it was valid until then. So, we weren't too concerned; we were supposed to be heading out to their house this weekend. Those plans got scrapped because my sister is having my niece's birthday party on the same day. I don't know what possessed me, but Saturday night I just HAD to look at the back of the marriage certificate. Don't ask me why, it was just this compulsion I had. Thank every God in existence that I did because what I had neglected to see was the part that said that it needed to be returned to the clerk's office before the tenth of the next month. The tenth is Wednesday. *headdesk and much panic* I talked to Gi on Sunday and we made plans to go out to Lowell yesterday.

I'm very glad we did. Their house is gorgeous. The company was excellent. And dinner was oh so very yummy. Who would have ever thought that Gi would become such a fabulous cook in such a short time. :P

We dropped the marriage license off this afternoon and then we headed to the salon. I am very sad to announce that Joe had to cut his hair for work. Yes, that's right. Joe no longer has his beautiful long hair. *sobs uncontrollably* We went to Stacy's friend, Tammy, who is the manager of da Vinci Inc. in Ludlow. She's known Joe since he was a kid, so she understood how hard this was for him and she made it a little bit easier.  I took picture to commemorate this traumatic event. http://www.flickr.com/photos/39290161@N02/sets/72157619515875920/ It's going to take A LOT of getting used to.

Oh, and Joe got me sick. He came down with a head cold while he was still on vacation after the wedding. He immediately gave it to me and we were both miserable for a full week. I'm just finally starting to feel better. I don't want to cry everytime I swallow or talk and I have finally ceased sounding like a deranged chipmunk. Now I just have  a rotten cough and my stomach feels like crap because my sinuses are draining.

A confession
I am so very sorry LJ and IJ, I've been cheating on you with FaceBook.

I don't know how it happened. I swore to never become too involved. I just went over there to see who I could find. But there were so many people over there! I found friends from high school. I found family members who have gone astray. I even found the very first guy I fell in love with (unrequited love, alas) and he's a DOCTOR! In Miami! *sigh*

And then I saw all of the shinies. Games and fun little applications to send cute little gifts to friends.

And it's so easy to use! I can just type in short little status messages and I don't have to worry about writing a long ass post just so I don't feel like I'm wasting people's time.

*sobs*

Can you ever forgive me?

RIP Onyx 5/9/09
Photobucket

Our kitty, Onyx, passed away early this morning. She was only two.

We noticed late last night that her breathing was very labored and she was quite lethargic. We were going to wait and bring her in to the vet's this morning, but I came down to check on her at about midnight and she was flopped over on her side not moving, just panting very heavily. We rushed her to the Boston Road Animal Hospital because they are the closest 24hr emergency care facility in the area.

They took some x-rays and said that her lungs were full of fluids. If it was congenital heart failure, her chances of survival were good. If it was some sort of infection, her chances were "quite poor". There was no way in hell that we could afford every test that they wanted to do, so we decided to leave her there for the night, in the oxygen box, then we would pick her up in the morning to bring her to our normal vet. We also left them with instructions not to try and resuscitate her if she went into cardiac or respiratory arrest since the vet assured us that if that did happen, it was very unlikely that she would revive and if she did revive by some chance, there was a very high likelihood that she would simply continue to go into arrest until her body gave out completely.

So, we finally got home at around 2:30am whereupon we both proceeded to bawl our eyes out. At around three, the vet called to tell us that Onyx had gone into both cardiac and respiratory arrest and passed away. She said that she had gone in and extracted 35cc's of fluid from Onyx's lungs and there was still at least another 60cc's in there, which was an extraordinarily high amount. She also said that the fluid was bloody and full of puss. Without running a bunch of tests, there was no way for her to know what sort of infection it was.

The worst part of it is that neither Joe nor I had noticed anything unusual until last night. She had been active and playful just the day before. I noticed a little bit of labored breathing on Thursday, but I had just assumed that she had done her spastic, let-me-run-around-the-entire-house-at-mach3, cat routine and was simply catching her breath. There was absolutely no visible lethargy, so I didn't think anything of it.

I keep running the last couple of weeks over in my head. She was more clingy than usual. She had taken to batting at my arm while I was on the computer. But none of that was anything to throw up red flags. I think deep down I had a feeling that something was wrong, but I've been so stressed out because of the wedding and worrying about everything that I brushed it off as pre-wedding anxiety.

Could we have saved her if we had noticed something sooner? I don't know. One of the technicians at the vet had a cat that went through the same thing. They caught it early, but it took a lot of time, effort, and money to get her to live through it.

There won't be anymore animals here for quite a long while. I'm just so emotionally wrung out. We lost both ferrets last year and now Onyx. It's enough to make me think that I'm some sort of jynx when it comes to animals.

Okay, I need to go cry some more...

[info]auntiemame67 posted this in her journal: [a]lso, no matter what Obama promised you, you are going to have to be willing to *work* for it. We have a very large hole to dig ourselves out of, and it's going to take work, and taxes, and supporting our leaders and watching them like hawks to make sure they do the right thing to succeed...

And I think she makes an excellent point. We, the American people, CANNOT just sit back and expect Obama to fix everything himself. We are going to have to pitch in and do our part. Make ourselves part of the process of rebuilding our country and our economy.

We can't just sit back and bitch about what's going wrong without ever lifting a finger to help. We have to go out there and volunteer our time and effort to make things right. We have to get out and become a part of our communities and strive to make things better.

Yeah, it might mean we have to make some sacrifices, some compromises in our position on things, but that's what life is about. It isn't about having things handed to us exactly the way we want. We're going to have to ask ourselves "Are my personal feelings on X, Y, and Z more important than the pragmatic facts?" And yes, I am talking about the gay marriage issue. I'm talking about the abortion issue. I'm talking about the adoption for gays issue.

ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL. That does not mean only straight men. If all men are equal under the law then all men need to be treated equally by the law no matter what your personal/religious beliefs on the issue are.

LIFE, LIBERTY, AND THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS. This does not apply to only a select few who agree with your stance. It applies to every American. EVERY. AMERICAN.

We need to get over our knee-jerk reactions and actually think about what will benefit ALL Americans. We need to start thinking about what the actual consequences of an action/law/constitutional amendment are rather than the spiritual/moral consequences.

Everybody has a different set of spiritual/moral beliefs and denying them the right to act on their own personal spiritual beliefs because they conflict with yours is denying them their Constitutional right to freedom of religion. And yes, if I were a lesbian in California who wanted to marry the person I loved, Prop 8 would impinge upon my right to worship as I chose.

"All acts of love and pleasure are My rituals." This is a line from the Charge of the Goddess. The Charge is one of the few pieces of actual liturgy that many Pagans have in common. No, it isn't a universal piece, but there are a great number who do use it as such.

This piece of spiritual liturgy says that any act of love and pleasure is a form of worship. A form of prayer. To deny a person that expression of love and pleasure by denying them the right to marry the person they love is an impingement upon their religious beliefs.

My personal spiritual beliefs say that all people have the right to marry whomever they choose whether that be a man, a woman, five men, or three women. It doesn't matter as long as it is done with love and consent.

Love and consent. If only everything we do was done out of love and consent instead of hate and force.

I'll stop rambling now and let you all get on with your day.
